ABOUT THE KETOGENIC DIET
The Ketogenic Diet or “Keto Diet” is a high fat, moderate protein, and very low carbohydrate diet. Through the restriction of carbohydrates, it re-programs your metabolism to burn your fat stores for fuel rather than using the glycogen stored in your muscles. The low-carb intake helps to keep your insulin and blood sugar levels from spiking. This allows your fat cells to begin releasing fatty acids, which your liver will then breakdown to produce what are called “ketones.” Ketosis is the physiological state that is achieved when your body breaks down ketones for energy rather than the glucose from carbohydrates.
The Keto Kickstart plans are based off the Fat Adapted Keto Plan (with a little less fat) and meant to jump start your weight loss journey. We would love to help you set up a customized meal plan to fit your long-term goals.
The Keto Diet is not a good fit for everyone and can be dangerous for some. You should consult with a healthcare professional before starting any diet, exercise or nutritional supplement program, before taking any medication, or if you have or suspect you might have a health problem.
You should not attempt a Keto diet if you have any disorder in which you cannot digest fat properly – such as a gallbladder removed or exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. The Keto diet can cause significant dehydration, acid-base imbalance, and nutrient deficiencies.
If you have, or think you have, a medical problem or symptom, please consult a qualified physician.
BENEFITS OF THE KETOGENIC DIET
Weight Loss – On a keto diet, weight loss can often be substantial and happen quickly (especially for those who start the diet very overweight or obese). Studies have shown that this kind of nutritional approach is able to induce effective weight loss along with cardiovascular improvement.
Fight Type 2 Diabetes – The ketogenic diet works by eliminating carbohydrates from the diet and keeping the body’s carbohydrate stores almost empty, therefore preventing too much of your fat storage hormones from being released following food consumption and creating normal blood sugar levels.
Fight Heart Disease – The keto diet can reduce the risk of heart disease, including high cholesterol and triglycerides. In fact, the keto diet is unlikely to negatively impact your cholesterol levels despite being so high in fat.
Helps Protect Against Cancer – The Keto Diet eliminates excess refined sugar and other processed carbohydrates and may be effective in reducing or fighting cancer. It’s not a coincidence that some of the best cancer-fighting foods are on the keto diet food list.
Fight Neurological Disorders – Over the past century, ketogenic diets have also been used to treat and even help reverse neurological disorders and cognitive impairments, including epilepsy and Alzheimer’s symptoms. Research shows that cutting off glucose levels with a very low-carb diet makes your body produce ketones for fuel. This change can help to reverse neurological disorders and cognitive impairment.
